Craighelen Girls' Under-10 Tournament
Adam Juster was this year’s junior winner of the coveted ‘Miller Rose Bowl’ at Craighelen Tennis Club. The cup was donated by the ‘Miller daughters’ – Patricia Hargan, Pamela Watt and Irene Cowper in memory of their parents, Dr. and Mrs. Miller who were life-long servants and members of the tennis club, Dr. Miller being the president for a number of years. Pat presented the trophy to Adam in recognition of his commitment and steady progress in his tennis skills; he played a super season in the U14 team this year and is now training in coaching sessions – no matter what the weather, preparing for next season.![]()
British Tennis Membership
On a rare warm, still night the Girls U10 Championships was held under floodlight at Craighelen Tennis Club. Four girls - Alex Macfarlane, Mairi Colman, Fiona Porter and Marianne Owen, took part in this round robin event. All 4 girls played their best tennis and there were some terrific rallies and exciting points. Alex was the overall winner, she won all of her matches, showing great determination and some super forehand winners. The tie between Marianne and Mairi would decide the runner up; this was a great match when the other girls and lots of family members were treated to a seesaw set, which Mairi won 10-8 in the tie-break. It was a lovely event, and thanks goes to Florrie Black, a young ‘Tennis Organizer’ for umpiring the matches.![]()
There are several teams playing in West of Scotland Leagues, starting towards the end of March. Every player involved MUST have a British Tennis Membership Number. If you are not a member and are expecting to play in the matches then you must get yourself signed up – FREE UNTIL 2012. There are forms available at the club, or you can ring: 0845 873 7202. Or go their website.
Some people who had a British Tennis membership number BEFORE the new system came into being last year DID NOT GET PUT ONTO THE NEW SYSTEM AUTOMATICALLY. If you are one of these people who have ‘slipped through the net’ then you must contact British Tennis and get yourself back on the system. The league organizers will not allow anyone who is not a British Tennis Member to play in the leagues. There is a list of all members on the system on the MAIN TENNIS NOTICEBOARD (not Junior Noticeboard) at the club, or you can check on the BT Website. When you know your new number, please add it to the lists on the Junior Noticeboard and General Tennis Noticeboard.
